Meet the Rooties! I hope you're enjoying our web site. This page is just to let you know who's who at Roots |

Steve (Kitchen Rootie!) Root
Having worked for a big company, I quickly decided that I much preferred the small business world that my father worked in. In small business you get do each job properly. I'm no good at plumbing, but I've always enjoyed a challenge. Growing a small business can be really challenging, and making each room perfect for each customer also gives you something to be proud of. So, with the help of my parents we decided to expand the plumbing business to include kitchens and bedrooms. The expansion got a little big to be called "Medway Plumbing and Heating" so the expansion got its own name, Root's.

Kathy (Mum the cook) Root:
Things would be very different at Roots without Kathy. She's the one who cooks food for all of our customers to nibble as they choose their new Kitchen or Bedroom. My (Steve Root) limit is sausage rolls and pizzas! (Needless to say one of the advantages of having a kitchen shop is 3 working ovens, 2 working freezers, 2 working fridges, a working dishwasher...)

Graham (Dad the plumber) Root:
We've got a bit of a tradition going at the Rooties. Every customer we serve should be so pleased with our work that they tell all of their friends. Graham started this tradition. He's still running the original plumbing company (running over 30 years) which he has never advertised. All of his work has come from recommendation. Maybe its because he spends a lot of time training, so he has the skills and knowledge to do the best possible job, right first time. He's probably the reason I (Steve Root) love learning so much. What else are Dads for?

Rhonda (Steves Real Boss) & Nicola Root
Rhonda is Steves wife and has to put up with Steve wanting to stop in every Kitchen shop when we go on holiday. Nicola runs around the showroom and reminds us to make sure every design is safe as well as fun.
|
Dave (Bathroom Rootie) Root
Dave is the youngest Rootie and after many years travelling the world came back to look after all of our bathroom related products. While travelling Dave qualified as a snowboard instructor and taught in America. That training helps him teach the rest of us more about bathrooms.
|
Colin (say cheese) Riley
Colin joined us in 2007. He puts his honours degree in Visual Design to good use as our specialist designer of bathrooms. He's also a dab hand with a camera, so don't be surprised if your room is good enough for a magazine feature.
Here, Colin explains how a cistern works. You may think that all cisterns are alike but this model has an inner liner to prevent condensation forming on the outside.
|
Margaret (the designer) Waghorn
Margaret joined us in 2007. As a working mum she uses her honours degree in interior design to make rooms as good looking as they are practical.
|
Ryan (Webmaster) Hamlin
Ryan tries to ensure that all of our standard products appear on this website. With over 100,000 standard products he wears out the occasional keyboard.
|
Lorraine Hassen
Lorraine schedules all of our jobs and keeps everything well organised. It's her job to make sure our suppliers deliver your products right first time and on time. She's like superglue, perfectly joining all the different skills at Roots together to make sure your job runs as smoothly as possible.
|
Sharon (upside down rootie!) Bowden
Sharon, also known as sister rootie, used to run our office. Having met the man of her dreams (Todd, the Australian Carpenter) she's now married an emigrated to a sunnier place. Something tells me there may be an Australian branch of Roots in the not to distant future .. .. ..

Leslie (Granddad) Root:
Granddad Root is responsible for the name, although he'd blame his father. He died in 1998, which is a shame because he'd have loved surfing the Internet and driving our delivery van. He spent the last few years of his life writing his life story. I'm glad he did, you're welcome to read it (Les Root's Life Story). He also enjoyed the occasional political debate, and was a "union man" through and through. |
Read Les Root's Story!

Brian (The Aqua Engineer) Watts
Brian takes care over all the bathroom installations to make sure that your water works for you. And also the final finish is exactly what you want
|
Mick (The Chip) King
Every good family kitchen company needs an excellent carpenter. Mick is the best of the best of the best of the best. (I confess I may be a little biased, but he is really good). Please remember we only fit kitchens and bedrooms in Kent - Mick has a family of his own and likes to get home during the same day that he left for work
|
Andy (The Electrician) Marshall
Andy`s our bright spark. He ensures there`s power where we need it and the electrical circuits meet all the required standards including Part P.
|
Alan (The Perfectionist) Shrader
Making a kitchen look good doesn't just rely on the quality of the units. It's our skilled fitters, like Alan, who will make sure that everything is just right.
